SONIA TÁVORA (Rio de Janeiro, 1952) is licensed in Architecture and Urbanism by the Bennett Integrated Faculties, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Since 2004 she focuses her attention on the visual arts in her multiple languages. Image and spatial occupation appear as concepts for the elaboration of her works. The artist points out most potentially for situations which activate poetic reflections between painting, engraving, sculpture, photography and video. In her research questions related to the memory, the ephemeral, the erasure, the belonging, the transience are potentiated. From 2005 to 2010 she attended the Visual Arts School at the Parque Lage, RJ. In 2006 she stated to integrate with the Printed Project, within a group of artists that investigate plastic and aesthetic possibilities of the engraving. Lives and works between Brazil and Portugal.
